Cord Blood Banking
You may also want to do some research before you plunk down a lot of money to bank your baby's cord blood. I recommend verifying that the banks are accredited with the American Assoc. of Blood Banks (www.aabb.org). I'm not sure if these are accredited or not, they were just a list of major banks I collected. Plus, some prices may have changed as this list was created in 2004.

Hope this information helps those of you who are thinking about saving your babies cord blood.
We donated our son's cord blood. It didn't hurt him. They collected the blood from the cord attached to the placenta after he had been delivered and after his cord had been cut. Several hospitals today will accept cord blood donations. Be sure to discuss this with your doctor ahead of time. At the time our hospital didn't accept the donations, but we found a private company that sent us a kit and had us FedEx the donation to them.
